2008 – Boone Society Reunion – Lexington
Our first tour was the historic Bryan’s Station: Kathryn Weiss served as speaker for the Memorial Wall that surrounds the Spring and includes names of the pioneers that lived in the area and were served by the Spring. Then on to visit Edward Boone’s gravesite that was originally identified by the DAR. A white marker was place at that site in the early 1900’s by CAR (Children of the Republic and in 1996 a large Bronze Historical Marker was placed at the site. We also visited Cane Ridge Meeting House, then to Blue Licks State Park for a tour and lunch.On Friday, we visited Shakertown, and Historic Fort Harrod, the Lincoln Marriage Temple, Fort Harrod Museum , then to Frankfort to tour the Old State Capitol and Cemetery, where the remains of Daniel and Rebecca Bryan Boone were moved to in 1845. Our last stop for the day was at Waveland built in 1844-1848 by Joseph Bray, the grandson of Capt. William and Mary Boone Bryan of Boone Station fame.
The final day of this packed 2008 Reunion was Boone Station in Athen’s KY, then to Fort Boonesborough and lunch at Hall’s overlooking the Kentucky River. Banquet Night at 7PM
